2023 Five-and-Under National Championship Slated for Hibbing

Final game at the 2022 Five-and-Under Nationals.

We are pleased to announce the Hibbing Curling Club in Hibbing, Minnesota, as the host of the 2023 USA Curling Five-and-Under National Championship from April 19-23, 2023.

This championship, open to those who have played the sport for less than five years and are 21 years of age or older, brings together teams from across the country to compete for the title. Teams earn berths in the Five-and-Under Nationals through 23 qualifying bonspiels across the country. Each year, the host club is also awarded one berth to round out the 24-team field.

“Curling runs deep in Hibbing and we’re proud of our history in the sport,” noted club President Ben Wilson. “We’re excited to share our enduring passion for the game with some of its newest participants, and we’re looking forward to watching four days of great play on the ice.”

Founded in 1913, Hibbing is no stranger to competition as Olympians, World Men’s Champions, and World Senior Men’s Champions have called the club home. In 2023, Hibbing looks to continue their history of competitive excellence by hosting the Five-and-Under Nationals, and this championship starts only a few days after the club’s famous 128-team Last Chance Bonspiel.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Five-and-Under Nationals to a venue so deeply rooted in our sport’s history,” added USA Curling Interim CEO Dean Gemmell. “Many of the curlers vying for this title come from newer facilities around the country, and we’re excited to bring past and present together. John Shuster and I were both at last year’s championship, and I’m looking forward to Hibbing—these competitors have a love for the game that is infectious and exciting to be around.”

Teams in the Five-and-Under Nationals can be comprised of any combination of players, regardless of gender identity. More information about qualifying procedures and the complete list of qualifier bonspiels can be found here.

Please note: the date of the MOPAC 5U Bonspiel, currently a Nationals qualifier, conflicts with the Nationals. Organizers have made great efforts to reschedule but have so far been unable to move the event. If the dates cannot be adjusted, another 5U Qualifier bonspiel may be added.
