2025 WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES QUALIFIER scheduled for the dakota curling club

[EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, June 21, 2024] The 2025 World University Games (WUG) will be in Torino, Italy, from January 13-23, 2025, and USA Curling will be sending representatives.

For the first time, the Olympic discipline of Mixed Doubles will be a part of these Games, offering young athletes an additional opportunity for high-level competition. USA Curling will send one men’s team, one women’s team, and one mixed doubles team will qualify.

The Men’s and Women’s teams will be the winners of World University Games Qualifier scheduled for October 4-6, 2024, at the Dakota Curling Club in Lakeville, MN. For Mixed Doubles, USA Curling Sport Performance staff will select representatives through an application process.

“This Qualifier will showcase some of the country’s top young talent, and provide a valuable test for players who are seeking to advance to the highest levels of international play,” noted USA Curling Sporting Director Katie Baker. “The World University Games are a valuable proving ground that helps young athletes prepare for representing our country in other international events.”

Eligibility criteria for the World University Games and the October Qualifier is as follows:

a) Students who are currently officially registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at a university or similar institute whose status is recognized by the appropriate national academic authority of their country;

b) Former students of the institutions mentioned in a) who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the calendar year preceding the event;

c) Athlete must be at least 18 and no older than 25 years of age on the 31 December of the year of the event.

While USA Curling will provide support to the World University Games teams, teams should expect to incur some expenses if they are named to Team USA.
