2023 U.S. WHEELCHAIR CURLING NATIONAL TEAM TRIALS UNDERWAY

On May 24-26, the Denver Curling Club in Denver, Colorado, is hosting the nation’s top wheelchair curlers to tryout for next season’s U.S. Wheelchair Curling National Team.
The 12 athletes competing in the 2022-23 Wheelchair National Team Trials are:
1. Stacy Bates – Adover, Minnesota
2. Laura Dwyer – Oconomowoc, Wisconsin
3. Stephen Emt – Hebron, Connecticut
4. Lisa Maddox – Grovetown, Georgia
5. Stacey Rice – Suwanee, Georgia
6. Dan Rose – Denver, Colorado
7. Shawn Sadowski – Portage, Wisconsin
8. David Samsa – Suamico, Wisconsin
9. Matthew Thums – Weston, Wisconsin
10. Shawn Timberlake – Sandy Springs, Georga
11. Batoyun “Oyuna” Uranchimeg – Burnsville, Minnesota
12. Pamela Wilson – Westminster, Colorado
Beginning on Tuesday morning, the 12 participating athletes gathered in the warm room of the Denver Curing Club for the pre-event meeting where an overview of the Trials was given.
Following the meeting, all 12 athletes hit the ice to begin the first of five rounds of skills competitions where specific shots are called, executed, and then tracked by a team of scorers evaluating the performance of each athlete.
The Trials will consist of individual skill shots and observations. Throughout the Trials, participants will be ranked on demonstrated skill, game knowledge, prior team participation and performance, and team dynamics. A gender specific, rank ordered list based on these criteria will be created and used to select the eight athletes named to the roster of the 2023 U.S. Wheelchair National Team program.
Of the eight athletes named to the roster, five will be selected to represent the United States at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2023. The selection of the representing team will be based upon individual performances at the ensuring Wheelchair Curling National Team camps and competitions.
