On May 24-26, 2022, the Denver Curling Club hosted the nation’s top wheelchair curlers as they competed for qualification to the 2022-23 U.S. Wheelchair Curling National Team.

The 2023 U.S. Wheelchair Curling National Team Trials consisted of a series of skills competitions, where specific shots were called and scored on accuracy.

In addition to the skill shots, Trials participants were also evaluated on demonstrated skill, game knowledge, prior team participation, experience, and performance, and team dynamics.

At the conclusion of the Trials, cumulative scores were awarded to every participant to create gender-specific ranked lists.

From those rankings, the following eight athletes have been named to the U.S. Wheelchair Curling National Team roster for the 2022-23 curling season:

Men (listed alphabetically by last name):

  • Steve Emt – Hebron, Connecticut

  • Dan Rose - Denver, Colorado

  • Shawn Sadowski - Portage, Wisconsin

  • Dave Samsa - Suamico, Wisconsin

  • Matt Thums - Weston, Wisconsin

Women (listed alphabetically by last name):

  • Laura Dwyer - Oconomowoc, Wisconsin

  • Oyuna Uranchimeg - Burnsville, Minnesota

  • Pam Wilson - Westminster, Colorado

“It’s an honor to be able to represent the United States on the grandest of stages,” said two-time curling Paralympian Steve Emt. “There’s no greater feeling than to say I’m a member of USA Curling’s National Team.”

The eight athletes named to the 2022-23 roster will train together at camps and competitions under the direction of USA Curling National Team coaching staff. Five athletes will then be selected to represent the United States at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2023.

“Alongside some of the greatest adaptive athletes in our country, we are going to improve upon our standing on the world level and continue to strive for greatness,” concluded Emt.

USA Curling is sponsored by Columbia Sportswear, Toyota, Twin Cities Orthopedics, Training HAUS, Brakebush, ISS (Ice, Sports & Solar), and Sitrin, and is partnered with IHG, Rock Solid Productions Inc., Laurie Artiss Ltd. – The Pin People.
