The repeat U.S. Women’s Junior Curling National Champions, Team Strouse (Delaney Strouse, Anne O’Hara, Sydney Mullaney, Susan Dudt, and Kaity Murphy), were set to compete at the 2022 World Junior-B Curling Championships in Lohja, Finland, earlier this month.

Due to positive COVID cases in the men’s field, the 2022 World Junior-B Curling Championships were canceled, meaning for the second year in a row, Team Strouse would not be able to compete to qualify for the World Junior Curling Championships.

“The team had worked so hard over the last two years to be the best possible representatives at the world junior level,” said Sydney Mullaney. “Having missed out on the opportunity to represent our country in both 2020 and 2021, it was defeating to think about aging out of juniors without getting the chance to represent the United States like we had earned.”

Since countries were unable to qualify for the 2022 Championships via the Junior-B event, the World Curling Federation has determined that the field would be completed by advancing the three highest ranked nations who had not already secured a spot.

Based on these procedures, Latvia, Norway, and the United States have qualified on the women’s side for the 2022 World Junior Curling Championships.

“I am proud of the time and effort we have put in to prepare for the Junior World Championships and am excited to show that off as representatives of the United States,” added Mullaney.

The 2022 World Junior Curling Championships, now scheduled for May 15-22, 2022, in Jönköping, Sweden, will mark the first time the United States has had representation at the event in both the men’s and women’s divisions since 2019.

USA Curling is sponsored by Columbia Sportswear, Toyota, Twin Cities Orthopedics, Training HAUS, Brakebush, ISS (Ice, Sports & Solar), and Sitrin, and is partnered with IHG, Rock Solid Productions Inc., Laurie Artiss Ltd. – The Pin People.
