After a winning the qualification game against Denmark on a last-rock draw to the button, Team USA advances to the semifinals of the 2021 World Women’s Curling Championship.

In the semifinals, the United States (8-6) will face Switzerland (12-1) where the winner will advance to the gold medal game and the loser to the bronze medal game.

Despite Switzerland’s impressive record through the round robin, Team USA, consisting of Tabitha Peterson, Nina Roth, Becca Hamilton, Tara Peterson, and Aileen Geving, played a close game against the Swiss when they faced off earlier this week in the round robin.

Using the momentum from their win in the qualification game, paired with knowing how well they competed with Switzerland in the round robin, Team USA knows what needs to be done to pull off a second straight playoff win.

“We’re going to talk about this game against Denmark really quick, probably like five minutes, and then take some time to rest up before our game against Switzerland,” said Tabitha Peterson, skip of Team Peterson. “Switzerland is a really good team so we’re going to keep the pressure on and keep it close to give ourselves a shot for the win.”

With the United States falling short in their last two games of the round robin, the momentum shift sparked by the qualification win is arriving at the perfect time to face the number one seeded Swiss opponents.

“We’re a very resilient team,” said Nina Roth, vice of Team Peterson. “We find a lot of strength in being together, we’re great friends on and off the ice, and that gives us a lot of power when we’re competing.”

A power that has placed the United States in a position to play for hardware on championship Sunday.

“Even if we’re in a slump or things aren’t going our way, we find energy working with one another to rally and bounce back,” Roth added.

The semifinal game between the United States and Switzerland can be watched live on the Olympic Channel today (Saturday, May 8, 2021) at 5:00 PM ET.
