The sibling duo of Becca and Matt Hamilton returned to Center Sportif Sous-Moulin for day two of World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2022.

After opening the event with a victory over Czech Republic, the brother sister duo was quick to settle in, focusing on enjoying the experience.

“We just want to have a good time here,” said Matt Hamilton. “Typically, when we enjoy ourselves, we play well, so the goal really is not to get frustrated or upset with each other.”

The siblings carried that enjoyable momentum into Sunday morning where the United States met Turkey in game two of the round robin.

A takeout on two corner frozen Turkish counters achieved a score of one for the Americans in the opening end.

The good fortune continued in end two, when Turkey had an opportunity to draw for three with their final stone of the end, but heavy draw weight resulted in Turkey removing one of their counters and tying the game with only a single point.

Utilizing patience, a skill gained in the Team’s world experience in 2017 and on the Olympic stage in 2018, Becca and Matt Hamilton found an opportunity to score three in the third end to take a three-point lead.

Team USA went on to dominate the second half of play, scoring eight points to Turkey’s three, and securing a 12-6 victory after seven ends of play.

In their evening matchup, the Hamilton duo opened with hammer against Spain, but a perfectly frozen Spanish stone earned Spain a steal of one in the first end.

Team USA evened the scoreboard in the second before stealing two more points in the third.

Facing one Spanish counter without hammer in the fourth end, Team USA drew under cover, forcing Spain to play a lightweight tap that under curled, resulting in a steal of one a 4-1 lead at the half.

In the second half, the U.S. opened with a single and then forced Spain to only one point with their power play.

Team USA returned the use of the power play in the seventh end to keep charge of the game. The mission was accomplished with a draw to the rings for a score of three and an 8-2 victory to remain undefeated three games into the round robin.

The U.S. will face Germany in their fourth round-robin matchup and only game on Monday, April 25th.

“As long as we enjoy our time here, have fun and play, I think the results will come,” concluded Matt Hamilton.
