On March 24, 2021, the World Curling Federation (WCF) announced that the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship will be held in Aberdeen, Scotland from May 17-23, 2021.

In consultation with the Scottish Government, the WCF and Curl Aberdeen are working collaboratively to implement protocols that ensure the event is conducted as safely as possible.

In preparation for the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, USA Curling, in collaboration with the Athletes’ Advisory Council, announced in that the reigning U.S. Mixed Doubles National Champions would advance to the 2021 World Championship.

As 2020 U.S. Mixed Doubles National Champions, the duo of Tabitha Peterson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Joe Polo (Duluth, Minn.) accepted their berth to the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Championship, a decision made easy following the cancelation of the 2020 World Mixed Doubles Championship that Peterson and Polo were set to compete in April 18-25, 2020 in Kelowna, Canada.

“It’s always fun to be able to compete on a world stage,” said Polo. “Now that a date and location has been confirmed, it makes it feel real again.”

Peterson and Polo have proven to be a consistent and successful pairing over the years, finding themselves in medal contention at U.S. National Championships, as well as on the podium at the 2016 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship after defeating Scotland in the bronze medal game.

“We’ve been working hard on and off the ice, even in this weird season (or lack thereof),” said Peterson. “We’re very excited for the opportunity to represent the US at Worlds.”

With the top seven countries of the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Championship earning a spot in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, Peterson and Polo’s experience and comfortability will be invaluable.
