2022 U.S. MIXED DOUBLES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP UNDERWAY

The 2022 U.S. Mixed Doubles National Championship kicked off today at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, Wis.

The Championship, hosting 25 mixed doubles curling teams from across the country, is a triple knockout format to determine the final eight teams that will advance to the playoffs.

“The size of the field has allowed a variety of teams to compete, giving some their first National Championship experience, and others an exciting return to a National Championship with fans in the stands,” said USA Curling CEO Jeff Plush.

At the conclusion of the Championship, a national champion will be crowned, and the winning team will earn a berth to represent the United States at the 2022 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship scheduled Apr. 23-30, 2022, in Geneva, Switzerland.

“The pandemic has thrown us all quite a few curveballs and the resiliency and commitment of the athletes competing this week is to be applauded,” added Plush. “It’s a joy to see them return to the ice and compete for the title.”

The first day of the Championship brought much excitement, boasting a stolen six-ender, enthusiastic crowds cheering on the home team duos, and a handful of teams already in backs-against-the-wall scenarios to stay in the playoff hunt.

“It’s great to see these athletes back on Championship ice,” said USA Curling Head Ice Technician Shawn Olesen. “We’re happy to be doing it with a great crew of volunteers in a top-notch facility.”

Games will resume on Wednesday, with draw times at 9:00am, 12:30pm, 4:00pm, and 9:00pm.

Fans can purchase tickets, follow scores online, or catch the action through the livestream of sheet ‘C.’
